Breathe is a 2D top down game where the player roleplays as a kupuna from Hawaiian mythology, whose goal is to vanquish the Mo’o monsters plaguing their home in Waipi’o valley. 

High school Hawaiian student Kaika faces anxiety as he begins his first day at school. Luckily, his beloved Anake (Aunt) tells him a story about his ancestor, Kia’i, to help him overcome this anxiety. Join Kaika as he conquers the Mo’o swarming the island of his ancestor’s time and the overwhelming high school experience.

Hi, This is Allne Turner from the BIPOC Games Studies Conference. Our form, unfortunately didn't capture your email, so I'm reaching out here to try to connect with you.

We are writing to inform you that your game has been provisionally accepted for the Showcase portion of the 2025 Bipoc Games Studies Conference, which will be held on September 13th, 2025. Accepted games will be shown from roughly 10:00 to 4:00 on that Saturday. You will be provided a table, two chairs, and power to run your game off of a laptop or whatever other equipment you bring to demo it.  You will likely want to get a team of two so that you can take turns demoing and enjoying some of the rest of the conference content on Saturday.

For your game to be accepted, you must formally inform the organizers that you will attend the conference and complete your registration on the website by May 15th.

As the conference is new, we are sorry to say that we cannot provide travel support to attend the conference.  Should you seek sponsorship to cover the costs of attending and demoing, we suggest you contact local, regional, state, or federal arts, technology, or economic development organizations.  These entities can provide direct support or point you to others who can assist you.

We understand that finding funding can be challenging. If you can't attend in person, the conference will assemble a video loop that will play in the showcase area during that portion of the event. If you wish to take this option, please notify Professor Allen Turner at aturner8@cdm.depaul.edu. Allen will point you to a list of specifications for a 2-minute gameplay video and a repository folder to drop the clip into. He and his team will assemble the clips into the running loop for the event.
